What to expect during your treatment

Services are tailored to each patient’s situation. Your first visit will last about an hour and a half, and be more involved than follow-up visits which last an hour. Feel free to download our forms and fill them out ahead of time. Acupuncture sessions may include cupping and nutritional advice, as needed. All additional services are also available on their own for more in-depth guidance.

It is important to have a light meal prior to your treatment. Low blood sugar can cause faintness, while being too full may lead to discomfort or nausea. Please avoid alcohol for six hours prior to treatment. You may also want to wear loose fitting pants that can be rolled up to the knees. After your session, it’s best to take it easy for at least a few hours to allow your body to fully process the effects of the treatment.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an intricate medical system used to enhance the body’s natural healing ability. Thin needles are inserted into specific access points which trigger a desired response in order to treat illness and injury. Acupuncture is extremely effective in resolving menstrual abnormalities, various types of pain, digestive disorders, addiction, and other physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Typically, patients will experience a deep relaxation during and after treatment and often see results somewhere within the first few sessions. Every person is unique in their speed of recovery.

Chinese Medicine is the longest enduring system of healthcare on the planet, and one of the few that works with the body to enable its own healing mechanism. It provides solid solutions without negative side-effects or the use of harmful chemicals. This is healthcare you can trust, and it continues to be used by millions of people worldwide as treatment for both common and uncommon health concerns.

herbal medicine

Herbal Medicine

The beauty of Herbal Medicine resides in nature’s own wisdom. By using a plant in its natural form, the chemical balance is left intact, allowing it to be powerful and free from negative side effects. Herbal formulas are carefully tailored to each individual’s needs, and in time, are adjusted to keep pace with the healing shifts the body has made.  Herbs are also commonly used as prevention to strengthen the body against opportunistic pathogens, the ravages of stress, exhaustion, and decline.

This massive body of herbal knowledge is rooted in shamanic practices from the B.C. era, which were then systematized through multiple dynasties, expanded through centuries of clinical use, and has for decades, undergone extensive scientific research while applied in hospitals and private practices worldwide.

Cupping

Cupping has been in use for centuries around the globe, from Eastern Europe, to Egypt and the Middle East. It is known to activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation, and assist in deep tissue repair. Traditionally this method has been used to resolve muscle tension, the common cold, respiratory issues, menstrual and abdominal pain, and to reduce inflammation. Cupping involves mild suction, drawing up the skin and superficial muscle layer, which in turn releases tension and stagnation. It is the suction that creates those signature markings often seen on athletes who enjoy the benefits of this fast-acting therapy. Markings are normal to have for up to ten days after your treatment, and are a positive sign that your body is responding and reacting as intended. Patients usually leave feeling exceptionally relaxed, bright eyed, and blissful.

Only breath enters your body more often than the food that you eat. This provides a constant opportunity to heal and support yourself. Find pleasure in preparation, simplicity, and how energized you feel after a healthy meal. Chinese Nutrition takes this a few steps further, not only addressing the nutrients within your food, but also matching foods to your body type, the current season, and preparation method, in order to get the desired support your body needs. The way you consume your food is a key factor as well. Are you multi-tasking, holding stressful tension, or taking shallow breaths while you eat? All of this impacts the amount of healing your food can provide. Tailored dietary advice is one of the many tools we use to ensure our patients have what they need to regain health and keep it. We offer general advice, as well as extensive custom meal plans with ongoing support to guide you on your journey.
